DHL opens new centre in Spain
24/Nov/2006

A new DHL centre has been opened in Bilbao, situated at Loiu Airport. This centre will include DHL Express national and international road, sea and air services. According to DHL, the increase in activity and the growth in operations in this province have been determining factors in the construction of the new centre, and the transfer of the old Etxebarri premises to the new location. The project's total investment comes to around €10.6 million.

These new premises cover a total surface area of 18,850 square metres, of which 5,330 are used for transport and distribution, 355 metres for the logistics warehouse and 1,050 for administration and offices, making a total constructed area of 6,735 square metres. The centre has a total of 100 docks: 38 for route trucks and 62 for delivery vans. It also has a sorting belt capable of classifying 4,000 parcels per hour.

DHL Express in Bilbao has 140 staff, with whom it is able to reach an average daily activity of 6,000 shipments and over 14,500 pieces, making a total of almost 250,000 kilos.
